As a stay at home mom, my mornings typically involve a mixture of chaos and routine. I wake up early, often before my children, to grab a cup of coffee and have time to myself before the day really begins.
Sometimes, the mornings goes smoothly and without a hitch, but other days it feels like a never-ending cycle of chasing after my little ones and attempting to wrangle them into clothes. Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t trade these early morning moments for anything.
Here are 5 tips to help you start your day on the right foot
Wake up before your children
If you are in a season where waking up before your kids is an option I recommend it. Waking up before your children gives you a little bit of quiet time to yourself before the day begins. You can use this time to drink a cup of coffee or tea, do some light exercise or yoga, meditate, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet.
Plan your morning the night before
Take a few minutes before you go to bed to plan out your morning. Prep a load of laundry (use delay wash if you have it!), set out clothes, pack your bag if you are headed out, and prepare water bottles and/or breakfast for your family. This will help you feel more organized and in control in the morning.
Start with a healthy breakfast
Yes you mama and no coffee doesn’t count! Eating a healthy breakfast can give you the energy you need to get through the morning. Make sure to include some protein to keep you feeling full and satisfied. Overnight protein oats are my go to!
Have a morning routine
Having a morning routine can help everyone get into the right mindset for the day. Whether it’s reading a book together, getting dressed and going for a walk after breakfast, or doing morning chores together, find something that helps you all feel calm and focused.
Be kind to yourself
Most important tip! Remember that you’re doing the best you can, and it’s okay if things don’t always go as planned. Take a deep breath, give yourself grace, be patient with yourself and your children, and try to enjoy the moments of the morning that bring you joy!
